Congress recently passed new legislation regarding OPEN END LENDING as part of Regulation Z, and the new Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009 (Credit Card Act of 2009). Although the intent was to implement reform in abusive credit card lending, wording in the legislation also affects any open end loan. The law requires that open end loans generate a monthly statement that is mailed at least 21 days prior to the payment due date. In order to comply with this and other requirements as a result of the new regulations, Windthorst Federal Credit Union must implement a uniform due date for all open end loans. Effective September 1, 2009, all open end loans will have a payment due date of the first day of every month. The payment amount shown on your statement will be the amount that must be received on or by the first of the following month. If you currently have an agreement with the credit union to make payments on your loans weekly, bi-weekly, or semi-monthly, via payroll deduction, direct deposit, bank draft or transfer, then your payments will continue to be posted on those dates, unless you contact the credit union to make other arrangements.
